Fonseka pledges to convert Palaly in polls manifesto

Presidential Candidate General Sarath Fonseka’s is expected to make public his election manifesto on Thursday and will include a pledge to convert the Palaly domestic airport into an international airport if he is elected President. The manifesto will also assure the removal of the high security zones in Jaffna,

Meanwhile General Sarath Fonseka’s security personnel were arrested by the police yesterday (Saturday) whle on their way to Vavuniya from Jaffna. According to sources in the General’s office, Army Personnel within the General’s security contingent were arrested by the police while they were traveling in a bus from Jaffna to secure an area in Vavuniya for an election rally expected to be held Sunday

Fonseka tours Jaffna seeking Tamil support at polls
Former military chief Sarath Fonseka took his presidential campaign to Jaffna today where he visited a historic Hindu temple and addressed a rally. Fonseka was also due to meet the influential Roman Catholic Bishop of Jaffna, Thomas Savundranayagam, a spokesman for his office said.
In an interview with an Indian television network on Friday, Fonseka had warned that Rajapakse was out to rig the election and said he feared a violent campaign.
"You can see the election is going to be a very violent election and we want every friendly country to put pressure on the president to ensure democracy is established," he told the NewsX network.

Both Fonseka and Rajapakse are from Sri Lanka's majority Sinhalese community and appeal largely to their own ethnic group. Both claim credit for the final defeat of the Tiger rebels in May, which ended a decades-old ethnic conflict.
The possibility that they might split the Sinhalese vote has added weight to the intentions of the Tamil electorate and officials said Rajapakse, 64, was expected to visit Jaffna later this month.
The defence ministry effectively blocked independent journalists travelling to Jaffna, even though the authorities had announced last month that travel restrictions had been withdrawn.
Rajapakse called the early January poll in a bid to capitalise on the victory over the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) who had launched their campaign for a Tamil homeland from Jaffna in 1972.
Fonseka and Rajapakse have been at loggerheads since the end of the conflict. Fonseka quit after accusing the government of sidelining him and falsely suspecting him of trying to stage a coup. (AFP)

Here is Corruption with proof : Fonseka's media spokesman throws challenge at Ravaya Editor and Govt
JVP M.P. and a Presidential candidate Gen. Fonseka's media spokesman Anura Kumara Dissanayake addressing a media briefing at the General's office today (01) said, while the Ravaya Editor Victor Ivan says, if there is corruption in the Govt. it is for those who make such allegations to prove it. How come, then in his own newspaper there is an article referring to Govt. corruption in another page?, Dissanayake asked..
Every allegation he makes of Govt. corruption can be proved, Dissanayake added.
Dissanayake claimed that he is prepared to prove the corruption activities of the Govt. in Mihinair, National ID Card production tender, the monies plundered from the paddy fields in Marvilaru, Deniyaya palace ownership,Tsunami funds amounting to Rs. 600 million given to Tangalle Vijayaba Vidyalaya channeled wrongly to putting up a Hall at President’s Carlton House . Dissanayake challenged Victor Ivan on these allegations
The Govt. which was not in a sound position to present a budget is giving relief now for election gundu purposes. In any case the people are entitled to these relief measures because it is people’s money being used for relief.
When the Govt. of theirs is installed, to continue with the relief measures, all Govt. wastages and corruption should be stopped

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has taken the leadership of the propaganda campaign for common presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka
Ultra nationalist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has taken the leadership of the propaganda campaign for common presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka. The decision has been taken by the retired General after the embarrassing situation that he had to face recently due to a statement that he had given to the Sunday Leader.
The JVP’s domination over the campaign was evident yesterday (18 Dec) when General Fonskea launched his presidential campaign in Kandy. Fonseka’s speech was prepared by JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe, and the majority of the speakers were too from the JVP.
General Fonseka addressing the large gathering vowed that he would abolish the executive presidency once he becomes president. Also, he said that he would establish a government that would be accountable for the people. Fighting corruption and work against Rajapaksa nepotism were among his other promises.
NP General Secretary Tissa Attanyake addressing the gathering said that UNP had decided to tolerate a union with the JVP over the common interests the both parties share under the present circumstances.

The both parties had suffered a painful string of election loses and were almost throne in to pieces by President Rajapaksa’s crafty politics. The two parties upholds very different political ideologies but acted in collaboration against the government’s war effort.
